Ching-Wen CHAO

received her Doctorate degree at Stanford, where she studied with Jonathan Harvey and Brian Ferneyhough. She lectured at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and Stanford and is currently Associate Professor in Composition in Music Department of National Taiwan Normal University. She is curator of the contemporary music series held by the National Performing Arts Center, the most prestigious performance venue in Taiwan. Her work Dark Light was recently commissioned and premiered by the Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. She was creative director for theater-concert productions “Void” (Oct 2013) and “Worlds apart, Dream together” (Dec 2014) by the National Concert Hall Taiwan. Recent reviews include discussion of her compositions in Neue Zeitschrift für Musik by Schott and Editions L’Harmattan Paris. She has collaborated with Arditti String Quartet, Klangforum Wien, Phace, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, California EAR Unit, the Eighth Blackbird, etc. and her works have performed recently in festivals around Europe, America and Asia.
